Utopia is the latest popup to open in Toronto. The Happy Place and Hide and Seek exhibits took over Toronto’s Instagram earlier this year with endless confetti and cookie selfies. When Utopia opened this Spring we couldn’t wait to visit to see for ourselves how this new popup compared .
You can purchase your tickets on Eventbrite for a specific date and time and prices range from $9.99 to $24.99 plus the site’s added service fee. Our initial thoughts were “is this a little pricey for a one hour time slot?” but with Happy Place priced closer to $40 this seemed a little more affordable.
Organizers promise to limit ticket sales per hour to ensure attendees are able to enjoy the exhibits and get their pictures without overcrowding.
The popup is open until July 31st so you have lots of time to visit over the summer.
What should you expect?
Located at 144 Augusta Avenue, this location can be easy to miss so definitely look out for the signage!
Once you enter you’ll be met with friendly staff and a pretty waiting area. Be sure to to take a photo in the lobby by the wings! Once your tickets are scanned you’ll head into the a series of exhibits each separated by a curtain or barrier.
Were the exhibits worth it?
The exhibits delivered on a fun environment and there were some great photo opportunities. Surprisingly, the spaces weren’t crowded considering it was a Saturday at 3pm and we had lots of time with each exhibit (we went at the end of April but the summer might be a more popular time).
Our only issue was the overhead lighting and paint colour were not ideal for all the exhibits.
Which exhibits will guarantee the best photos?
The best natural lighting – Inflatable Clam
The most beautiful fairy lights – Dancing in the Rain
The most nature themed – Let’s go glamping!
The most dreamy backdrop – Counting Sheep
The best mirrored Effect
As much as we loved the rose swing and golden bathtub the wall colours were a little too bright and the overhead lighting was too harsh.
Overall this was a fun way to spend an hour in Toronto and we got some great photos for our Instagram! Be sure to relax on the hammocks before you leave!
Until next time,
